Power up your Tumblr posts

So... hi again.

Today I'm going to drift away from posting for my various hobby driven "articles" and just share with the rest of you people my knowledge on making your Tumblr account worth a s**t in terms of backlinking power.

Let's start off with mentioning that Tumblr is actually a pretty powerful link building tool - if used properly. To warm up I'll give a brief overview of a way to get very easy backlinks, which used to be "dofollow" but unfortunately have been changed into "nofollow".

In order for this to actually give backlinks to your desired website, you need to have your blog redirect to the domain you want the links to send to. This can be done in the configuration page of your Tumblr blog by clicking the "Use Custom Domain" check-box and then typing your domain.

From then on, you can easily get many links by just liking or reblogging other people's articles. Every time you do either of the aforementioned two actions, there's an automated sentence generated under the original author's articles stating that the user "Martin Seth has liked this post" or "Martin Seth has reblogged this post" where the user name is a hyperlink leading to the liker's domain just like the example, although this gives a "nofollow" link nowadays.

Alright, so although this is a clever and easy way to get links, they are "nofollow" links, so they pass no PageRank. Let's proceed to the actual "dofollow" links.

Every time you post an article, the links that you include in it and the source URL are "dofollow". However, Tumblr blogs rarely possess any significant PageRank, so if you want to make your links count, then you have to be a bit more subtle. The general idea is outlined below.

When you write an article, you have the opportunity of adding tags to it. Most people ignore them or just type the most important according to the article without giving it much thought. That's bad practice. Tags-research is a must for everyone that's interested in link building. To understand this you need to know that every time you post an article with tags, there's an equal amount of pages created that correspond to that tag. So if I add the tag "link building" for a Tumblr post, then if no previous article had the same tag, then a tag-page called "link building" will be created. If there have been previous post with that tag, then my post will also be published in this page as well.

Now, to take advantage of this you need to do two things every time you post something on Tumblr.

1. Search the relevant tags to your article that have high PageRank.

2. Filter the ones will the least traffic, so that the link that will be created in the tags-pages doesn't flow out of sight immediately and instead stay in the 1st page for some days at least.

So, this is my short and hasty Tumblr guide. If you have any corrections, additions, or other advice I beg you. Share them!
